Tuning the Issues Out

The is one thing that I hate about the Audi community, gatekeeping. A practice where information is protected from an outside source, but in the Audi community, this is done in the strangest ways. People will post online resources, or information straight from dealers, but will protect otherwise free information posted on other websites just because. Sure you could find the link but they could just tell it to you. Instead, they will tell you to "figure it out newb." One of the biggest things that is gatekept is tuning. The stock ME7.5 ECU in the B6 a4 is tunable with basic programs. But learning the unique only to the community lingo is the first hurdle. Then you have to deal with all the yahoos on the forums not helping you use the software to get the information extracted from your ECU. But better yet if you manage to do that you have to do even crazier stuff to change the data or actually "tune" the ECU. But the kicker? people have programs to do ALL the hard parts themselves. Yet they won't give it out for everyone to use. The best part? They don't even sell the software. They just hoard it. It's not even like they made it themselves they themselves found it or got it from someone, but they just won't share. Not because they don't want you driving an Audi, but because they have fun gatekeeping, and this isn't the only instance of this. My only hope is that the toxicity of the masses won't drive new enthusiasts away.
