Issues with YOUR Audi Solved!

One of the biggest issues plaguing the Audi community is information.  But you might be thinking “Audi Nerd how could information possibly be an issue? Isn’t information good?” Well of course the answer is “yes… but.” There is always a polarized side to everything. And anything Audi is a prime example of that. Whether it be information on the forums or information on Audi’s in the public, there is too much of it and far too much of it is inaccurate.

Miss information can be a dangerous weapon, but that isn’t the kind of information weapon that hurts the Audi community so much. It’s the PLETHORA of incredible descriptive and overly complex information that causes so many issues for everyone involved.  Simply looking for basic information like “what oil should I run in my X engine.” You will be overwhelmed with the technical jargon and data sheets that people on the forums post, but you will also be slapped in the face with the opposite “I run x oil it works fine, oil is oil” and then 20 people responding calling them an idiot. It’s not only intimidating but it's just not helpful. All I wanted to know was what the manufacturer recommended!!!

There are few ways to tackle this problem. The first and “easiest” option is to dive in headfirst. Learn EVERYTHING, about EVERYTHING. If you know every decimal for every statistic posted you won’t even have to ask questions, you can just do the math to find the answer. I would strongly not recommend this. Not only is it cumbersome but its just not necessary. Although it can be fun to be a statistical nerd, there are simpler means to an end.

The next method is similar to the last. Read, read some more, and read again. Find one forum that seems to follow the question you need answered and rear all of it. I mean all of it. Even the single word reply’s It might be a 30-page forum post, but it might also be the only spot with information you need. Simply because the original poster was a data nerd and is willing to do the math for you and answer people’s questions. Unfortunately, sometimes this is the only way to get the information you need. But there is still a similar method.

The easier and fastest way to find the answers you’re looking for is to search. No not on the forums like everyone tells that one newb to do. Search on google, not Bing. Take your question like “what tune is best for the 1.8T” and click on every forum link you find, but if you don’t find the information you want on the first page after skimming, go back to google. Click the next link and do the same. If you don’t find a satisfactory answer, go back to google, and change up the question. Instead of “what tune is best for the 1.8T” change it to “tune options for the 1.8T.” and repeat the previous steps. Yes, you will have to do lots of clicking, but this is the best way to the right answer. Not only does it give you lots of coverage from many people, but it can help narrow down popular answers.  You might find an overwhelming amount telling you to get a GIAC tune or you may find 10,000,000 telling you to avoid APR. Well now you have that information. Not only did you not just trust the opinion of a couple people, but you got the knowledge to apply yourself. This way you can make an informed decision.

With a platform with so many dedicated enthusiasts there is a lot to weed through. A lot of lies, a lot of confusion, and a lot of wrong answers, but among all that there is also a lot of right answers. It’s important to know how to find those right answers, but it is a major problem knowing how to do it. When I first started reading forums, I was angry with how much stupidity there was. After having many strange issues with my car, I had to figure out what to do. After weeks of reading, I had no answers. Then I started jumping around reading just short bits. That’s when I finally found a singular post with the information I needed. Without that singular post I never would have figured out what was wrong with my car.
